concrete barrier set to replace steel barrier on m1

14 Oct 2012

The Highways Agency is set to carry out a barrier replacement project on the M1 near Barnsley, South Yorkshire next week. The purpose of the barrier replacement is to improve safety along the motorway. The steel central reservation barrier between junction 37 and 38 will be removed and a sturdier concrete barrier will be installed in its place. The much more robust style of barrier is expected to reduce risks of vehicles involved in accidents and improve safety for road users and workers. Another benefit of the concrete barrier is that if any vehicle impact does occur, it is unlikely that the barrier will need repairing. During the work, starting on Monday 15th October, the speed limit will be reduced to 50mph.
