Younsters from a school in Ripley, Derbyshire have been scooting safely after taking part in a new scheme to promote safer and healthier ways to travel. The pupils at Ripley Infants School were trained by members of Derbyshire County Council’s sustainable travel team to use scooters to ride to school. Headteacher Tracy Gannon said the scheme was part of a bigger plan to improve safety after the road outside the school, which is situated in a cul-de-sac. She said: “The road has become dangerous. There have been no accidents yet, but we have had some near misses, with people parking on the pavements and not looking when they go to reverse.” The school is also working with the police to try and get metal barrier put up outside the venue for additional safety.
