prison like fence to be replaced in west sussex temporary barriers needed

08 May 2012

Work has started to replace controversial steel barriers on the Loxwood High Street canal bridge in West Sussex with new brick-faced parapets. Local residents were un-happy with the original galvanised metal fencing which was installed in 2008 on the bridge, claiming they were more in keeping with the type of fencing which would normally be found around a prison rather than a peaceful village. After a mounting protest, backed by a petition at a public meeting, members of the canal trust agreed to work with Loxwood Parish Council and the Loxwood Society to find a more acceptable design for the barriers, despite spending 13,500 on the barriers. Temporary traffic barriers will now be needed before the new brick-faced parapets are installed.
