It has been claimed that safety barriers built in the middle of the A38 to protect people crossing the busy road in Alveston, South Gloucestershire have been deemed a “death trap” for cars and cyclists. The safety barriers built in concrete islands were constructed in November as a traffic barrier following a couple of incidents involving pedestrians. However, since the construction, there have been at least four car accidents at the junction. A council spokesman said: “Following feedback we received about the scheme, some minor modifications have been carried out to the central pedestrian island” “We will continue to monitor this junction.”
